Turtle Release

Most evenings, just before sunset, from August until December you can help release baby turtles.  These turtles have hatched from the eggs we collect from the female turtles that nest on the beach.  Depending on how many nests are ready to go, we can have over 2,000 baby turtles to release at one time.  As you can see from this video it is an exciting and memorable event.  We hope you will come join us for this great experience.

Nesting Turtles

During the night, from mid June into late December, female turtles

come on the beach to lay their eggs.  Our camp technicians and volunteers patrol the beach and collect the eggs for incubation back at the camp.  This increases the survival rate and keeps the eggs out of the hands of poachers, who steal the eggs to sell. For many of our visitors, going on turtle patrol and releasing the newly hatched baby turtles is the highlight of their stay.
